Nirvana Festival se complace en anunciar que durante el festival usaremos baños secos.
Como muchos de ustedes ya saben, la mayoria de los desechos humanos (caca y pis) son descartados en el medio ambiente como materia contaminante, cuando en realidad si previamente estos desechos se compostan se tranforman en algo positivo para el medio ambiente. La materia resultante de esta compostacion es una materia organica exelente para alimentar el suelo que luego alimenta a otras criaturas… el ser humanoentre ellos.
Los baños fueron provistos por Shambala Permaculture. Por favor tomate un tiempo durante el festival para darles un vistazo y leer la informacion que les damos para su uso. A continuacion te dejamos un poco de informacion acerca de baños secos…
“El mundo se divide en basicamente en dos categorias los que hacen caca en agua potable y los que no lo hacen en agua potable.
Nosotros los que componemos el mundo occidental, pertenecemos al primer grupo. Nosotros defecamos en el agua por que usamos agua potable para desechar nuestros escrementos. Este agua potable que descartamos y contaminamos muchas veses ni siquiera sabemos donde va o no nos interesa.”-The humanure Handbook
Tanques septicos , pozos, letrinas y otros tipos de dispositivos comunes tienden a filtrar sus liquidos en los cursos de aguas subterraneos, que luego alimentan los pozos y las fuentes de aguas de las que bebemos la gente. El baño seco es sin duda mas compacto y autosuficiente que los sistemas tradicionales. En realidad el baño seco puede y deberia ser aislado completamente del suelo. Baño seco no es un pozo en el suelo que lo tapamos con ceniza u otras materias.
La materia compostada de manera contenida otorga un producto organico exelente para alimentar al suelo y a los seres que dependemos de el. Cuando usas baños secos ademas de ahorrar y cuidar el agua evitas el uso de quimicos para eliminar tus desechos. De esta manera lo que dejas al irte del baño es un maravilloso compost. Bueno para los arboles y otros seres vivos. Otro hermoso ejemplo de principios de permacultura en el trabajo diario que se desarrolla en Nirvana festival.

Nirvana festival is proud to announce the use of compost toilets throughout the festival. Most of the world’s waste is quickly flushed down a drain, or discarded into the environment as a pollutant, it could instead be converted, through composting, into lush vegetative growth, and used to restore the earth. These compost bathrooms are being provided by Shamballa Permacultre. Please take the time at the festival to check them out and read the provided info on how to correctly use them. Here is a little info on compost bathrooms.
“The world is divided into two categories: those who shit in drinking water and those who don’t. We in the Western world are in the former class. We defecate in water, usually purified drinking water. After polluting the water with our body’s excrement, we flush the once pure but now polluted water “away”, meaning we probably don’t know where it goes, nor do we care.” – The Humanure Handbook
Septic tanks, pit latrines, and other types of common disposal units have the notorious tendency of leaking into groundwater, which feeds into wells from which the people drink. In fact, a composting toilet can be entirely sealed off from the ground. It is much different than a hole in the ground, filed with rotting waste. Everything in the toilets comes out as compost, good for the earth, the plants, and you. In addition to the benefits of not wasting water, or using chemicals to dipose of the waste; When you use compost toilets there is no waste because what your left with is wonderful compost. Good for the trees, and everything else. Another Beautiful example of permaculture principles at work at Nirvana Festival.

Permaculture: the use of ecology as the basis for designing integrated systems of food production, housing, appropriate technology, and community development. It recognizes that Earth is the source of all life and is itself a living entity, that Earth is our valuable home, and that we are a part of Earth, not apart from it. Permaculture is built upon an ethic of caring for the earth and interacting with the environment in mutually beneficial ways.
The ethics of permaculture provide a sense of place in the larger scheme of things, and serve as a guidepost to life in harmony with the global community and the environment, rather than individualism and indifference.

…includes all living and non-living things—plants, animals, land, water and air - Care of People
…promotes self-reliance and community responsibility—access to resources necessary for existence - Share the surplus
…gives away surplus—contribution of surplus time, labor, money, information, and energy to achieve the aims of earth and people care.
Permaculture also acknowledges a basic life ethic, which recognizes the intrinsic worth of every living thing. A tree has value in itself, even if it presents no commercial value to humans. That the tree is alive and functioning is worthwhile. It is doing its part in nature: recycling litter, producing oxygen, sequestering carbon dioxide, sheltering animals, building soils, and so on.
Part of the intent of the Nirvana Festival is to strengthen our connection with our mother earth. There will be real world examples of permaculture solutions that people can use in their everyday life. Nirvana festival is applying the permaculture solutions and ideology to as many aspects of the gathering as possible. In addition to the ecological solutions we are also incorporating alternative business models, profit sharing, volunteer possibilities, and the continued growth of the Nirvana Festival as a not profit organization. Permacultura: el uso de la ecología como base para el diseño de sistemas integrados de producción de alimentos, vivienda, tecnologías apropiadas y el desarrollo comunitario. Permacultura reconoce también una ética de vida básico, que reconoce el valor intrínseco de todo ser viviente.
Parte de la intención del Festival de Nirvana es fortalecer nuestra conexión con nuestra madre tierra. Habrá ejemplos reales de las soluciones de permacultura que la gente puede usar en su vida cotidiana. NIrvana Festival aplica las soluciones de la permacultura y su ideología a todos los aspectos del encuentro como sea posible. Además de las soluciones ecológicas también está incorporando modelos alternativos de negocio, participación en beneficios, posibilidades de voluntariado, y el continuo crecimiento de Nirvana Festival como una organización sin fines de lucro.
